We recognize it thanks to its unique color, we love it for its sweet taste and its health benefits. 
It is eaten in salads, hummus, baked, boiled and even juiced. Even its leaves are eaten, like spinach.
You buy it raw for a better quantity/price ratio, but you can also buy it pre-cooked, to save time.

cooking technique

  • Beets take a long time to cook: 1 hour in boiling water or 1 hour in the oven at 350F. You can also grill them on the barbecue. For more details,Click here.

  • You can also enjoy raw beets by grating them and adding them to salads and sandwiches, among other things, to which they bring a nice touch of color and flavor.

Did you know that it is possible to eat beet leaves? They are prepared like spinach, raw in a salad or cooked.

Did you know?

Following the consumption of beets, urine and stools may have a red or pink color. Don't panic, it's completely normal!

How to choose it

We advise you to choose a firm beet with, when raw, a rind that should not be too dry. The leaves, if still present, should not be wilted. Smaller beets are more tender and faster to cook!


While cooked, it should contain no spots or cracks and with a fairly soft skin to the touch.

Conservation

  • Refrigerator: Store them 2-4 weeks or more in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator, unwashed. In a cellar, they keep for 1 to 3 months. Wash and brush them only before cooking them. It is recommended to keep the stem (about 4-5 cm long) to extend the shelf life

  • Freezer: Cooked and cut beets can be stored in the freezer for 12 months. They will not lose their flavor.

Trick

No need to peel the beets before cooking. Once cooked, simply peel it easily under cold water, with gloves, if desired, to prevent colored stains on the hands.
